If you think running marathons or triathlons are taxing, try mountain running for a change. This extremely challenging sport, also known as fell running, is the sport of running and racing, off road, over upland country where the gradient climbed is a significant component of the difficulty. For those who indulge in mountain running here in Malaysia, do not miss the 25th Mt Kinabalu International Climbathon 2011 which will take place from 22nd till 23rd October 2011.

The 25th Mt Kinabalu International Climbathon 2011 is an exciting event not to be missed

The Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon is one of the toughest mountain race in the world and is the ultimate challenge for those who are keen on testing their endurance. The event started off in 1987 when Sabah Parks decided to look for people who could join the rapid rescue squad, a team of rangers whose task is to bring down injured climbers in the shortest time possible. Though it was restricted to Malaysians only at first, it was later open to international participants. This sporting event is now very popular among European mountain runners.

This race will see these extraordinary runners running up and down the 4,095 metres of Mount Kinabalu along a 21 kilometre route. They will also have to overcome the gruelling vertical climb of 2,300 metres over an eight and a half kilometres. The male and female winners will each be awarded with the prestigious Skyrunner SuperCup. Registrations and briefing for runners will start on the 21st October 2011. Runners from the Men’s Veteran and Women Open category will compete on the 22nd October whereas the Men’s Open category will compete on the 23rd.
