The legislative members are
themselves elected by the people during an election held once every five years
or after the dissolution of the Assembly. Those eligible to stand for election
have to be a Melaka residents and over the age of 21. The State Legislative
Assembly since February 2000 had been relocated to Ayer Keroh following the
State government decision to centralize its management, administrative and
official affairs.

The Museum of Traditional Custom is located at the Alor
Gajah Square, next to the Alor Gajah Municipal Council’s Keris Monument. This museum is approximately 25 kilometers
away from Melaka Town. The
Traditional Malay House is the main identity for the museum.

living in Melaka. During the British rule, this building still retained its

early 1990 and it was opened to the public in 1994. The Maritime Museum was
officially opened by the Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on June

The Maritime Museum is located at the old Guthrie warehouse
after it was extensively renovated by the Public Works Department. The building
is next to the replica of the Flora de La Mar that houses The Maritime Museum.
The Maritime Museum Phase II is a modern museum incorporating computer
technology and focuses on a variety of maritime themes such as maritime life,
exploration of the oceans and seas, treasures from the sea and others.

Excellent examples of Chinese-Palladian style, these townhouses, built
in 1896, were transformed into a traditional Peranakan museum in later years,
connected by a common covered footway, the museum features hand-painted tiles,
elaborately carved teakwood outer swing doors and a sturdier internal door
which provides extra security. Framed by Greco-Roman columns, two red lanterns,
one bearing a household name and the other messages of good luck, hang on
either side of the entrance.

The Agriculture Museum is located at the heart of Jasin
town, next to the Jasin District Police Station. A long time ago, Jasin
district was the earliest producers of tin and agriculture products in Melaka.
The museum was established to showcase the historical activities and the
economy of the local people, especially in the fields of agriculture.
