Bayview Beach Resort

bayview-beach-resort-penang-1

At the edge of the coastal town of Batu Ferringhi on the island of Penang you will find the pleasant and very affordable Bayview Beach Resort. It is an excellent resort, mainly because of the great price to quality ratio. The resort is very suitable if you are traveling with kids.

The resort has a beautiful garden right in front of the beach, and an enormous pool. At Penang Island you usually go out for the entire day exploring the island, so it is great to be able to cool off a bit in the pool in the afternoon.

Bayview Beach Resort is located on the edge of Batu Ferringhi, which is a good location. The beach of the resort is beautiful, but the ocean isn’t crystal clear (same goes for all waters surrounding Penang).

In front of the resort you will find a small supermarket, a small travel agency and a couple of souvenir stores. Other than that you will find two bus stops in front of the resort; one for buses going to Georgetown and one for buses going to Teluk Bahang. You also have a taxi stand in front of the resort, where you can grab a taxi for a fixed price (taxi’s in Penang usually don’t use meters).

From the resort you can walk to the center of Batu Ferringhi within 5 minutes. Across the road you will find a lot of small stores, which usually don’t open until after sunset. At the resort you can order a taxi to the airport, or to the harbor. This is especially handy when you depart at an early hour.

The lobby of the hotel is massive. The rooms are pretty simple, but come with all the necessary amenities. All rooms come with a balcony, of which the more expensive rooms come with a stunning ocean view. Breakfast is pretty simple but fine; the breakfast room has a nice view onto the pool and the garden. Within the pool there is a fun bar where you can enjoy a drink while still being in the water. The garden is really big, and come with a lot of beach beds. The beach itself is fine, but not a great place to get a tan (because of the various beach activities). You are better off doing this in the garden.

Golden Sands Resort

golden-sands-resort-penang-1

The Golden Sands Resort is situated on the touristic sea resort of Batu Ferringhi on the island of Penang. It is part of the luxurious resort chain of Shangri-La. The hotel is beautiful and it has its own beach (the sea itself is not that great, but the private beach is very beautiful!). There is a stunning swimming pool and an even better garden. After lunch you can join a pool fitness class, with a trained teacher giving everyone proper instructions.

There is also an extended kids program. Golden Sand Resort was once named the most child friendly hotel in Malaysia. It is still one of the best resorts on the island to stay at if you are traveling with your kids. The Tai Chi master is probably the one who will be kept in our memory the longest. We have gotten out of bed at 8am in the morning a couple of times, to follow his classes.

The rooms have been decorated stylish, they are big and come with all the comforts you want. There is free Wi-Fi and a television which also broadcasts kid programs. The rooms with a balcony looking out over the sea are the prettiest. Breakfast at Shangri-La’s Golden Sands is very good with a large choice and a comforting atmosphere.

The hotel has plenty to offer, and there is something to do for the visitors pretty much every night. At the entrance of the hotel there is a nice daily evening market, that starts at about 7pm (Pasar Malam) and ends around midnight. Guests of the hotel are also allowed to use the facilities at the next door 5-star sister resort Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resport and Spa.

The hotel is a great base for several trips and tours around the island of Penang. Golden Sands Resorts has been named the best resort of Penang several times.

HONEST HOTEL STAFF RETURNS RM 100,000.00

Honest hotel staff returns RM100,000 to owner

Honesty rewarded: Norashimah receiving the plaque from Chung during the award ceremony.

MALACCA: Brought up by a military-trained father who values integrity over self-interest, hotel staff Norashimah Abdul Razak did not hesitate to return a bag full of money – with Australian currency worth close to RM100,000 – back to its owner.

The 72-year-old hotel guest had left the bag in the safe in his room and checked out without realising he had left the bag behind.

The Australian was on his way to Kuala Lumpur yesterday when the hotel management contacted him. Only then did he realise he had left his bag behind at Hotel Equatorial here.

The hotel management then arranged an appreciation event for Norashimah and awarded her an exclusive plaque for her honesty.

Norashimah, 30, an assistant front office manager, said her soldier father had taught her that taking things that belonged to someone else was a sin.

Relating the events before the bag was returned to its owner, she said after the guest left in the morning, she entered his room to make a check and saw the bag in the safe.

She immediately sensed it contained a lot of money and quickly informed her superiors about the find. She later found out that the bag contained notes amounting to A$30,000 (RM89,510).

“My dad’s rule of thumb is to never take anyone’s belongings and respect those who are elder, regardless of their race.

“My father’s advice crossed my mind and I told myself to refrain from any temptation to take the money,” she said when interviewed.

Norashimah, the eldest of six siblings, said her retired military father had planted the right attributes in his children.

“Dad imparted all the right values in us and we were always reminded to respect everyone,” she said.

The guest, who returned to the hotel to get his bag, said he was in Malaysia for a holiday.

“I am extremely thankful. God bless honest Malaysians,” he said.

Hotel general manager Adrian Chung said he was proud that his staff had manifested such high integrity,

Photo taking point 1 before Selong Belanak beach, Lombok Island

Since the Lombok International Airport is located almost the south of Lombok island, we started our journey to the attractions at the south island before check-in to the resort which is at the north west of the island.

Our first destination was Selong Belanak beach, that will be approximately 22KM travel from the airport. Along the way, with the winding roads, villages, and we passed by this tobacco farm (S8.81711 E116.21746). According to Pak Uji, Lombok island is the biggest tobacco supply to the whole Indonesia market.

Before we reach the beach, suddenly everyone in the car surprised with the stunning view ahead of us! The driver (Pak Zaki) was very kind, and he stopped at one of the photo taking point (S8.85585 E116.17915) (small hill) to let us satisfied with our cameras…

 photo IMG_2933_zps884937ba.jpg

Everyone out from the vehicle without hesitation! It was a very nice spot where surrounded by the beautiful scenery. The place was close to the beach, which about less than 3km from Selong Belanak beach.

The first scene which attracted me was the ‘blue’ colour of the sea, accompany with the total blue sky separated by the horizon. The total scenery painted a beautiful picture just in front of us! Amazing!

Don’t miss out the scenery behind the small hill where we stand, by looking at the mountains and blue sky, we felt the dryness of the island. Can you feel it too?

30 minutes later, everyone satisfied with their photos, our tour continued…
Initially I thought the place was quite deserted until we saw others visitors keep coming in…it should be a hot spot area!

We continued the journey for another 3.2km to the beach….
