Top 5 things to do during the monsoon season in KLDecember 3, 2016
By Emma Richards
Monsoon season has arrived! While in a lot of cities this would mean sitting indoors and being bored, in Kuala Lumpur there’s a whole world of activities to be discovered under the dry safety of the shopping mall roofs.
1. Theme Park – Berjaya Times Square Shopping Mall
Yep, you heard me right, there’s an actual theme park in Berjaya Times Square Shopping mall fit with roller coaster and all. This place is fun for all the kids (and big kids) of the family with bumper cars, pirate ships and a loop-the-loop rollercoaster. There’s even an arcade if you’re not up to the rides.
As the largest indoor theme park in Malaysia, it’s definitely worth checking out when the clouds start to roll in.
Tickets are RM51 for adults and RM41 for children. Opening hours are 12pm – 10pm Monday to Friday, 11am – 10pm weekends public holidays.
2. Discoveria – Avenue K Shopping Mall
Discoveria is a place of ever changing exhibitions so you can never be quite sure what treats you’re in store for. One of their staples however, is the Dinoscovery; an interactive trip back in time to discover the world of the dinosaurs.
Complete with 22 roaring dinosaur animatronics, a dino-shooting range and your chance to race a Galliminus dinosaur, you won’t have a minute’s boredom.
Tickets price for Malaysian citizens is RM25, non-Malaysian citizen RM40. Opening hours are 11am – 6pm Monday to Friday, 10am – 8pm weekends.
3. Archery – Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall Berjaya Times Square Mall
For something a bit different to the standard bowling trip, why not try archery?
Stars Archery operates a couple of indoor archery ranges in Kuala Lumpur and promises fun for the whole family. They have a team of qualified instructors to guide you safely through the weaponry and then it’s over to you to test your target practice.
They’ve also recently introduced blowpipe games for a taste of some true Malaysian culture.
Prices depend on the number of arrows/games played. Opening hours are 10am – 10pm daily.
4. Petrosains – KLCC Shopping Mall
Petrosains is an interactive Science Discovery Centre that lets you explore the world of science and technology in a fun and interactive way. Ideal for young children, this experience starts off with a ride in a space age bubble car which transports you through to the walking tour of discovery. There’s a play area for the young ones, a 3D show and plenty of educational activities cunningly disguised as fun games.
Ticket prices RM25 adults, RM20 children. Opening hours 9.30am – 6.30 pm daily.
5. Black Bull – Avenue K Shopping Mall
This is one to leave the kids at home for. Black Bull takes all of your favourite bar games and puts them under one roof. They have interactive dart boards, pool (of course) and even mini ten-pin bowling alley…all teamed with the bar and restaurant serving you food and drinks to keep you merry all night long.
Prices depend on the game. Opening hours 10am – 1am daily.
